Course Description: Introduction to instructional technology and its foundations. Includes electronic media, operating systems, networks and multimedia in educational and corporate environments. This is a prerequisite for all other ETEC courses; an IT orientation with program faculty/advisors will be part of the first week of the course. (4 units)

• Evidence of Investigation: My website was originally started on August 13, 1998, at the Vern Stern Technology Center on the premisis of the Ontario-Montclair School District Offices. I have always wanted to learn how to put a website together and I never thought that I would have the opportunity to do so.
  

• Evidence of Engagement: I did have the aspirations to keep it up, but that never happened until I wisely enrolled in a computer class at Cal State San Bernardino with a wonderful, understanding, and patient professor.

• Evidence of Reflection: My evidence of reflection is my website that I started 10 years. Because of the class I learned that the website I created needed to be updated, so I'm adding to what I had 10 years ago and hopefully, I'll stick it.

• Evidence of Investigation: This was given as a homework assignment because this is the method that the ETEC instructors prefer.
  

• Evidence of Engagement: I needed to take a list of references that needed to be put into APA style. Most instructors like MLA style, so it was nice to learn a new style of references.
  

• Evidence of Reflection: I was able to share with others what an APA style should look like. Having done the APA style will be beneficial to me, as well as those that I have shared it with so we can complete the necessary assignments correctly. This assignment has been very beneficial to me in other assignments within this course.

• Evidence of Investigation: This was an in-class assignment so that the instructor could see where we were at in our readings and that we are in fact doing the assigned readings within the text.
  

• Evidence of Engagement: I needed briefly write on the history of microcomputers in the classroom as I understand it (and future as it should be) and how technology could transform schools. These come from Chapters 3 and 4 of the Anglin text.
  

• Evidence of Reflection: As I have looked at the grades that I have received for the various assignments that I have submitted for the quarter, I realized that I have not completely completed this assignment the way the professor would like it to be. This is a big "oops" on my part and will need to get that done, soon! I wish that I caould have been more pro-active in talking to the other staff members on my campus to find out what they know and what they need to know to help them better their skills to help their students to learn differently.
  

Quickwrite Narrative

• Evidence of Investigation: This started out as an in-class quick write assignment that needs to be turned into a short one page narrative.

• Evidence of Engagement: I need to take the outline that I wrote in class at the beginnig of November 2008 with the thoughts that I had and turn them into a short one page narrative of how I see education and technology intergrating with each other. As I have observed various teachers, I have noted that some are technology savvy, while others need a lot of guidance. I have also noted that there are teachers that just need a pointer or two to get them started or restarted.
  

• Evidence of Reflection: As I have looked at the grades that I have received for the various assignments that I have submitted for the quarter, I realized that I have not completely completed this assignment. As I have completed this assignment, I have realized that there are ways that we, as educators, can get trained for various technological skills, there may be days that we need to take a day or two off work so that we may get the adequate training we need to teach the future. Having the opportunity to become more literate will only help us to help our students to become the future that will lead us one day.
  

Harp Seal Photoshop Technology Skill

• Evidence of Investigation: Originally, I thought that Photoshop would be a very complicated program to work with and use. This is a program that I have wanted to learned how to use. I was exposed to Photoshop during the Spring of 1994 when I used Photoshop to make my high school graduation announcements.
  

• Evidence of Engagement: My engagement has allowed me to relearn photoshop in class to be able to demonstrate my knowledge of putting together a homework assignment. I looked for a couple of hours to find something that I really like. I needed to find a picture on the internet that I could re-size, crop, and show an artistic version of that same picture that will give it a look of no other.

• Evidence of Reflection: My reflection has allowed me to see that my Harp Seal was very pixelated when I resized the picture. I liked really liked the picture, but I didn't think that it would get as pixelated as what it did. I was so disappointed to find a picture that I didn't think would be pixelated during class and that's all that I could find. It didn't take me that long to find a Harp Seal picture in class, but I was really disappointed that it got as pixelated as it did. I have also learned that it takes more time than what I had in class to find a picture that could be resized, cropped, and shown an artistic view that would go with the Harp Seal.
  

Dolphin Photoshop Technology Skill -- Of the two technology skills, this is my favorite.

I have never before experienced Photoshop in the way that the professor has taught until this class. I have really enjoyed looking though the different artistic views to find one that I liked and that would fit the section of the picture that I had taken out. The dolphin now looks like it has neon lights jumping out of the ocean in the evening. This is absolutely my favorite picture.

• Evidence of Investigation: This was given as a homework assignment. I probably wouldn't have looked into an assignment like this until I was certain that I would need to use it, but it came a lot sooner than what I thought it would come.
  

• Evidence of Engagement: This was obtained through a given homework assignment where I needed to look for three high quality journal articles relating to industrial design and learning theories that need to be from peer reviewed journals.
  

• Evidence of Reflection: This was obtained through the homework assignment through reading about various industrial designs and learning theories that has to deal with improving my knowledge with the changing techonology. I have learned that technology changes so much that reading and keeping up with the newest and latest technology.
  

Web Portfolio

• Evidence of Investigation: I really didn't know how I was going to present my website other than say, "Here it is." It has been a pleasure to add things that have sparked my fancy, as well as adding all of my homework and classwork assignments.
  

• Evidence of Engagement: I was able to share some of the things that I have done within this class for homework and classwork. I have been able to share things that I like to do outside of work and school that help me to be a better person.
  

• Evidence of Reflection: I have since thought about the direction that I would like to go with my website. I obviously need to have all of my class assignments posted, but I would like to add more things about what I like to do, where I've been on vacation, and anything that might strike my fancy at various points in my life.
  

ETEC 500 Final

• Evidence of Investigation: I neede to complete a directory on my website call it etec500final and send the URL to Dr. Newberry before the assigned due date. This directory is where I will put all task outputs for the final exam. After I create the directory, I need to download a picture that is located on Dr. Newberry's website and put it in the etec500final directory I created in step one. After downloading the picture off of Dr. Newberry's website, I will create a webpage called index.html and upload it to my etec500final directory. I will use my html skills to make the spiderrock.jpg photo show on my webpage. Once this is completed I will answer the following questions on my index.html webpage that is in the etec500final directory: What skill did you learn in ETEC 500 that you think will be most useful to you? Explain why you chose this skill and how you anticipate using it. What was the hardest part of ETEC 500. Why was it the hardest and how did you deal with it? What does ADDIE stand for in the context of ETEC 500 and the ETEC program? Imagine for a moment that you are getting ready to graduate from the ETEC program. Would you choose a Design and Development project, a research project or would you choose the comprehensive exam? Explain your answer. What skills, attitudes and behaviors are associated with "instructional technologists"? Of the skills, attitudes and behaviors you listed in response to question 9, which will be the most difficult for you? Explain why.

• Evidence of Engagement: I created an etec500final folder in my ETEC 500 assignments folder. Within this folder I created an index.html webpage. Once the index.html webpage was created and put withing the etec500final folder, I downloaded the spider rock picture from Dr. Newberry's website and saved it in my etec500final folder. Once saved I opened my index.html webpage and edited the webpage by putting the spider rock picture on the website. After trying and trying to post the index.html webpage on the internet with the picture on it, I got really discouraged because the picture would show while I edited the index.html webpage, but it wouldn't show after I uploaded the webpage to the internet. After e-mailing Dr. Newberry for quite a while, I was still discouraged and copied an html source for a picture that I knew would work. Dr. Newberry e-mailed and showed me what the problem was (which I had already suspected what the problem was), he responded that there is a box that needs to be checked (that I still can't check to this day). I finally copied this image source html source that did work to put the spider rock picture on the website and it did in fact work. I was able to change the background color so that the webpage would go with the new picture that I needed to put on my website. After figuring out all of this, there were 6 questions that needed to be answered and put on  my index.html webpage to show my knowledge in what I learned this quarter in ETEC 500.

• Evidence of Reflection: I have since thought about the process of the final exam. I am going to figure out how to get a check a simple box so I can add pictures without going through all the drama that I had to go through just to post one picture. I know that there is still a lot that I need to do learn and do. The final made me think about the entire process that I went through in getting my website re-established so that I can put it back on the internet and add things to it that I have learned from Dr. Newberry and my peers within ETEC 500. I am so grateful to have taken a class that has allowed me the opportunity to find a way that will allow me the opportunity to continue what I haven't been able to continue for so long. I have found this class to be very beneficial to me so that I can have an output in doing something that will allow me to do what will be a rewarding adventure in my future. Having reflected on the final and some of the reflections that have been asked, I found that this is something that will see me far into the future. I have realized that this is something that will allow me to use the creative side that I have, as well as teach those around me what I have learned from so many other talented people who have shared with my their infinate wisdom.
